A Buyers Guide to Budget Office Desks

There are many reasons for buying cheap office desks, not least among them, price. However, price should not be you only consideration when buying office furniture. Your should also consider quality, comfort, flexibility and longevity.

The cheapest desks which satisfy all the criteria of quality and comfort are probably the ML20 range of budget desks from GDB International. The ML20 desk is a basic desk with ‘L’ shaped legs with a small panel of the same material as the top, or straightforward panel legs. The desks are 72cm high and have a 25mm melamine-faced desktop with a 2mm PC edging. The desktop is available in three finishes, Cherry, Beech and Maple – standard office furniture colours. The desks include a 25mm structural modesty panel finished in the same material as the desktop and leg panel. The height of the modesty panel is 25cm. Each desktop has a 53mm cable port pre-drilled in the corners.

Both the panel and ‘L’ shaped legs have height adjusters on each of the feet, which can be adjusted through 20mm to take up uneven floor services. There are a large number of desktop shapes and sizes, ranging from basic rectangular desks through to symmetrical and asymmetrical wave desks. The range includes circular and oval meeting room tables, desk pedestals (drawer units) and matching storage cupboards. The ML20 is also quite rare in that it has optional reception counter tops which can be fixed to the tops of some of the standard desks to provide a budget reception counter.

The next model up in this range is the MT60. This is a very modern desk system which is based on a arch shaped metallic leg with a melamine-faced worktop. These desks are available in a wide range of configurations, including face-to-face bench desking systems which have become more popular recently due to flexibility and economy of shared leg systems. The MT60 is also the cheapest desk in the GDB range which includes height adjustable legs, useful for accommodating employees with a wide range of heights or with reduced mobility. The MT60 desk also includes comprehensive cable management facilities. Once again, a full range of matching meeting room furniture and storage cupboards is available for the MT60 desk.

The MT30 range follows, with a traditional metal cantilever-style leg and a 25mm melamine-faced top, available in Cherry, Beech and Maple. The MT40-50 range completes the range.
