Any training room, meeting room or conference room needs chairs for the attendees to sit on. You need to think carefully about your choice of chair, there are many different styles and types available on the office furniture market.

Firstly you need to think about functionality – do they need to be stackable or transportable? Stackable chairs vary in the number you can stack in one pile, from as little as three to as many as seven. Also, some stackable or folding chairs have special transport and storage trolleys available to make your life easier. If you are using the chairs for conferences and there are no desks or tables, some chairs have optional writing tablets that can be fixed on the side of the chair so that attendees can take notes. For large meetings, it may also be useful if the chairs have optional linking and spacing kits, so that attendees cannot move the chairs once you have placed them as you want them.

Secondly, you need to think about comfort. Things to consider are size of the seat, the height of the backrest and most importantly, the material of the seat and backrest. This can range from uncovered plastic through to fully upholstered fabric with or without a foam insert.

At the bottom end of the market is something like the Shell chair from GDB Design. This, as the name implies, is a basic chrome plated metal frame with a plastic shell fixed to it. This basic chair can be stacked up to a maximum of six and is available in Blue, Grown, Light Grey, Dark Grey and Black. This is a chair often found in public meeting rooms and village halls, and costs just £22, delivered. Discounts are available for large quantities.

The Super de luxe Folding chair, also from GDB, is a very versatile chair. The simple frame, with a leatherette or fabric upholstery, folds down to a thickness of 10cm. This chair is available from £69. A 23-chair storage and transport trolley is available for £227. Also available is a simple arm with a writing shelf, at a cost of £62.

More upmarket is the Multix range of conference and training room chairs. These stackable (8 max) chairs come in a range of styles, including both cantilever and 4-leg variants and a range of plastic and fabric seat and backrest upholstery options. These chairs range from £65 for a basic four-leg plastic version through to £133 for a cantilever version with arms and fabric upholstery. Writing tablets, linking kits, spacer bars, castors and a storage and transport trolley are all available as optional extras.

Right at the top of the range is the Passe-Partout. This is a cantilever framed chair, a fully upholstered leather version, with arms and an aluminium frame retails at nearly £200. Fabric upholstered versions are available from £125.
