Executive office furniture generally falls into two main categories, contemporary and classic. The materials used in the construction of executive business  furniture range from standard melamine-faced board, through glass, steel and aluminium to real wood veneers.

Modern melamine finishes are very hard wearing and are difficult to tell apart from real wood, so you might want to consider this as a low cost alternative to a veneer finish. Continue reading »

ACT are established designers and manufacturers of executive wood veneer office furniture. Each item is hand-built by experienced craftsmen in their UK workshops to the highest standard. Although designed for today’s modern workplaces, the range still evokes feelings of tradition and distinction. The hand-picked real wood veneers are available in twelve standard wood finishes (Maple, Cherry, Light Oak, Steamed Beech, Natural Walnut, American Walnut, Walnut Rose, Wenge Walnut, Pippy Oak, Stormy Oak, Birdseye Maple and Kevisinga). Inlays and edgings in contrasting veneers are also available. When a suite of furniture is ordered the natural veneers are carefully matched top ensure continuity throughout the suite.

The new products launched recently include an extension to the existing Nimbus and Stratus ranges specifically designed for home office use and the contemporary Cirrus reception furniture range.

The Nimbus home office range consists of modular bookcases, desks, pedestals and corner units so that the discerning home office worker can design their perfect home office.

The Cirrus reception furniture is a contemporary design available in all the standard finishes and with an optional glass counter top.

Customers looking for a large table and chairs for their meeting room are  often surprised at the total cost of the office furniture, and this is nearly always to do with the number of meeting chairs required.

The single table, at around £2,000 seems a good deal, and £200 is a good price when you are looking at  a decent quality leather meeting chair, but when you need 12 of these, suddenly the cost of the chairs is more than the cost of the boardroom table.

Our solution is a well known range of meeting chairs called Passe-partout.  The range has been thoughtfully designed to offer a value for money solution to your seating requirement, from a straightforward  fabric covered  reception, visitor or meeting chair to a full leather cantilever armchair for your executive boardroom.

Traditionally styled executive office furniture is still very popular here in the UK, especially in wood finishes such as cherry or mahogany.  The main problem most buyers find is that quality veneer furniture is very expensive and it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks before it can be delivered to you. There are also not many places where you can go to actually see the range before making your decision.

But our Cambridge range has none of these disadvantages. Modern manufacturing methods have enabled us to produce this traditionally styled range at very old fashioned prices, plus the whole range is available from stock in both finishes.

Contrary to popular belief, quality desks and tables were never actually made from solid wood, even back in the early 1900’s. Most cabinet makers preferred option would have been to use thin slices of wood, which was then applied to a stable substrate, usually ply or laminated  wood

The main reasons for this is that solid wood is not a reliable material to work with. Its moisture levels change with the seasons and environment, which results in the wood warping or splitting.

Meeting tables - a buyers guide

This guide is designed to help you work out roughly how much it is going to cost you to get the modular meeting table you want.  There are many different styles and prices out there, but hopefully we will be able to help you find what you are looking for.

First of all you need to work out how flexible you want your modular tables to be. You have to decide if the room is going to be used for many different purposes, such as meetings, interviews, training, and even reception parties, or whether it will always be used just for meetings and conferences

Use your head - get a flip-top

Most meeting rooms have to be used for many different purposes which means you need furniture which is flexible. A great big veneer boardroom table is fine for the AGM but what about the rest of the year.

You should always design your meeting room on the basis of what it will be used for, for most of the time, in the same way as you don’t buy a 4×4 if you live in the middle of the city ( OK that is probably not a good example)
But if you think smart you can actually have it both ways.

Big solid tables look good but are impossible to reconfigure, and training tables are light and easy to move around, but when made into one big table for a large meeting they look terrible. A sea of legs and uneven tops greet your executives or your customers.

Designing an effective meeting room

Bespoke Boardroom Furniture

As with all areas of the office a little thought and some careful planning will ensure that you create an effective meeting area. It is important to look at all requirements together rather than splitting furniture from decorations and audio visual as each impacts upon the other.

Probably the first consideration is to be sure what type of meetings you hold as this will probably dictate the type of table you purchase. If the meeting room has several functions such as board meetings, training Continue reading »
