Tambour Cupboards

Tambour Cupboards

A Buyers Guide to Office Storage Products

CH Workspace stocks all the office storage products that you are likely to need! Our best seller is the versatile Tambour Cupboard range, there are many different variants, most of which are held in stock and available for delivery in as little as five working days.
The modern tambour cupboards have slatted doors which ‘roll’ into the side of the cupboard. Unlike earlier models, which rolled vertically, modern tambour mechanisms are reliable and maintenance free Taking up very little space in the side of the cupboard, they free up a lot of space at the front of the cupboard, unlike traditional swing door systems. Unlike some competitors cupboards, our tambours come with a full set of adjustable shelves. All of our shelves include fittings for standard lateral filing systems, so no optional extras are needed to fully equip our cupboards for standard filing. Naturally, specific shelves are available for specific purposes, for example the storage of computer media. We also have pull-out filing frames for vertical file storage, and special pull out library-type shelves for examining file contents. Our extensive tambour cupboard range has a wide variety of sizes, frame finishes and door finishes to match almost any office environment. Most of our Tambour cupboards have a pre-welded steel frame for maximum stability and security, but we do have flatpacked and wood variants available as well. Continue reading »

In our first article on how to make your own office furniture we showed you how to make an office desk and office chair from scrap. In this article we will attempt to make more complex office furniture items, again from scrap materials. Once you have your desk and chair you will probably need some sort of filing cabinet. All businesses never have enough storage space, and even the most well intentioned office ends up with boxes on the floor, or on top of filing cabinets, which make the office  look untidy.

However with careful planning you can maximise your storage space with minimal cost. Proper planning combined with modern storage solutions can give you what you require .

You really need to speak to an office furniture dealer or visit a showroom to see what is available.  In the meantime the following may give you a better idea of what options are available :-

The dinosaurs were great creatures. Large, bulky and cumbersome, they occupied  most continents in the  prehistoric world. They were at the top of the tree in evolutionary terms and nothing  questioned their presence, and then…..
A huge asteroid hit Earth and changed its climate cataclysmically; the lumbering and heavy-footed dinosaur could not keep up with the times and one by one they crashed to the ground, dying  from starvation.

In less than 80 years they had become extinct; the only proof of their existence being a massive collection of dinosaur bones, buried deep under ground, all over the world.

Disaster recovery and office furniture

First of all a sobering fact – 90% of businesses that lose data from a disaster go out of business within 2 years.  So it goes without saying that the most important thing you can do for the prosperity of your business is make regular backups of ALL of your important records and data and store them in a separate place to your normal office. There are many IT services out there who will do this for you for a reasonable monthly fee.

But have you thought about the other equally catastrophic consequences of  a disaster?

Never enough space

Probably the most common problem we encounter in today’s office is that there is never enough storage space. Clients often want to cram more staff into the office and forget that more people and more work usually create more filing and there is nowhere to put it. So we need to look at space efficient and creative storage solutions.

The much loved filing cabinet is still in use in many offices but often only because no one has explained the many alternatives available. Filing cabinets have to be the most space inefficient product available for offices and I always do my best to steer clients away from them.

The problem is that at 60cm deep and only around 135cm high, plus allowing another 60cm to open the drawers, filing cabinets take up a huge amount of floor space and are always used as a dumping ground for rubbish.

Facts about buying used furniture

One way to keep your furniture costs down is to look at buying second hand. There are a few websites which specialise in this market, and Ebay often turns up a few Gems. You can definitely save money but there are some pitfalls which come with 2nd hand office furniture
One is that there will never be enough of what you want and too much of what you don’t want. You therefore need to be fairly relaxed about what you get. If you want all the desks and chair to match then you probably shouldn’t be looking at 2nd hand. Your will also need to accept a few scrapes scratches and dings. Office furniture has a hard life and 2nd hand furniture will have its battle-scars. It won’t be shiny and new smelling and you might find a few unexpected items in the drawer units.

Firstly let’s be clear about what we classify an office screen to be. Screens are panels used to divide areas within the office or desk mounted to separate one desk from another and should not be confused with partitions which are floor to ceiling walls used to create offices. The grey area is where screens are used to create rooms but we shall come back to that a little later.

If you are one of the super organised people out there then you may have a nice tidy desk with everything to hand and a home for all your bits and pieces. If your one of the majority then your desk is probably far from tidy. If you have piles of paper, pens and pencils and the usual office paraphernalia scattered across your desk then maybe you should look at some of the latest ranges in desk accessories.

If its time to tidy your desk first take a look what you have on the desk and in the drawers and decide if you actually need it. The general rule is that the more places you give people to store things the more rubbish they will accumulate so be ruthless and clear out all the unnecessary junk. Chances are there will be things in the bottom of your pedestal that haven’t been looked at in months and if that’s the case then either file them properly or throw them out. How many pens and pencils do you actually need? Get rid of the rubbish.
