Virtual office furniture

If you are looking to change the layout of your existing office or are moving to a new location then having someone to help with your office furniture layout is valuable help indeed.

Most office  furniture dealers will be able to help you with at the very least some basic two dimensional drawings which will give you an idea of what can be fitted into your office space, but if you are not used to working with flat line drawings then it is sometime very difficult to visualise what your new workspace is going to look like.

The more professional office furniture dealers will be able to help you even further by producing three dimension renditions of your office space, and, using similar finishes in the rendition for your walls ceiling, doors and windows, will be able to produce 3d renditions which are so lifelike that you will think the office  furniture, along with your office, has been mocked up in a photographic showroom.

Deciding on what will fit your office space is a daunting task which is best left to a professional office furniture dealer. Whilst you can download a basic drawing package from the internet, these will at best only contain generic furniture shapes and will not be able to show you what is available in the market today.

You need to call on the experience and expertise of someone who works in the industry and has resolved similar problems to yours, many times before.

Office desks are available in a wide variety of range of styles, shapes, sizes and prices. It may be stating the obvious, but the first task in the process of buying office furniture is to be clear about what you want the office desks to do.

Questions you need to ask are:

  • How many people do I need to fit in the available space now, and how is that likely to change over time?

  • Do I need a flexible, modular system so that I can change the layout and workgroup pattern when I need to?

  • Is style important? Stylish desks are often, but not always, more expensive than standard, old-fashioned desks

  • Do I need continuity of supply so that I am sure of being able to obtain the same furniture if I need to add more in the future?

  • Do you need other items of office furniture to match the desks, eg filing systems, reception counters, meeting room furniture etc?

  • How quickly do I need the office furniture – some office furniture dealers have stocked products available for delivery and installation at short notice, other products are built to order and may take several weeks to be delivered.

If you are about to embark on an office refurbishment project and want to have a go at your office layout, then our first piece of advice would be to ask an office furniture dealer for some help.
Most will draw up plans for you for little or no cost, and all will be able to offer you some very useful advice.
There are many pitfalls which will catch out the unwary and inexperienced, and these might turn into costly mistakes, as it is very difficult to send unwanted furniture items back.

Disaster recovery and office furniture

First of all a sobering fact – 90% of businesses that lose data from a disaster go out of business within 2 years.  So it goes without saying that the most important thing you can do for the prosperity of your business is make regular backups of ALL of your important records and data and store them in a separate place to your normal office. There are many IT services out there who will do this for you for a reasonable monthly fee.

But have you thought about the other equally catastrophic consequences of  a disaster?

The first question you need to ask is how much service do I need. If price is the most important criteria and you are happy to do your own research, put the furniture together and get rid of the packaging yourself then one of the many furniture stores or on line “box shifters” will be fine for you. You may have to collect your goods (and take them back if there is a problem) but you will certainly save money.

If you are running a busy office, and want to delegate the whole experience then you need to talk to an office furniture dealer. Continue reading »
