soft seating Much has been written about the Disability Discrimination regulations relating to reception desks and many
unscrupulous dealers mislead clients by stating that as it’s the law you must comply. Indeed when the regulation was first introduced many in the office furniture industry capitalised on client’s ignorance to sell product that legally wasn’t necessary.
Building regulations simply state that “reasonable provision shall be made for people to gain access to and use the building and its facilities”. And the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) sets out no specific requirement for reception desks. The relevance of the DDA is that it states that ‘reasonable adjustment’ should be made to meet the needs of disabled people and of course the word ‘reasonable’ will be interpreted differently by different people.
