Desk organisers. Too many people spend too much time sorting through piles of paper, searching for that one elusive telephone number which was written on the back of a piece of paper. If a time and motion study was carried out on the average worker, a significant percentage of that person’s time would have been spent on looking for things on their workstation. There are many products, courses, and gimmicks in the market place to help staff organise their work spaces, but the most effective way is to change the attitude of the staff member, so that filing is filed at the end of each day, and notes etc are written on a bound pad. Only two paper trays should be allowed, one for things to do on a daily basis, which is cleared every night, and the other on a weekly basis. The most simple systems are usually the ones which are most likely to succeed.
