Toolbars and Rails
Toolbars are used to hold accessories such as filing trays, paper holders, pen and pencil trays off the desktop. They can either be screwed to suitable desk-mounted screens or can be clamped directly to the desktop by the use of mounting pillars. There are many systems around in the office furniture markets and care should be taken to ensure that the accessories are compatible with the toolbars. Adaptors can sometimes be obtained. Now that flat-panel PC monitors have largely replaced CRT models, monitors can be clamped to the tool bar using standard VESA fittings, freeing up more desk space and allowing greater flexibility in the positioning of monitors. However, great care must be taken to ensure that the monitors are not too heavy for the toolbars, resulting in vibration which has a detrimental effect on the user.
