Office chairs – protecting the floor. The hard wheels on the chair 5 star bases can damage wooden floors and some carpets so it is a worthwhile investment to consider purchasing some protection. For wooden floors there are special PVC mats in various sizes, or you can purchase sets of urethane castors ( like skateboard wheels) which are much softer and more suited to wood floors. These castors are usually braked to prevent the chair shooting across the room and you stand up. Most office carpets are very short pile and designed for standard chair traffic but if you have thick pile carpets or the chair is for home use, suitable PVC mats with gripper studs on the underside, can be purchased. Both options are an inexpensive way of preventing damage which could be costly to rectify.
