The temperature of the office
Contrary to what many people think there is in fact no legal upper limit to the temperature in workplaces. The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 require that' During working hours, the temperature in all workplaces inside the building shall be reasonable.' General thinking within the profession suggests that the ideal temperature range within offices should be between 21 degrees centigrade and 24 degrees centigrade depending if it is winter or summer. If a building does not have air conditioning higher temperature may be perfectly acceptable in summer. As with lighting mentioned elsewhere the installation of an efficient heating, air conditioning and ventilation system within an office cannot be underestimated as uncomfortably high or low temperature levels can have an adverse effect on the productivity of staff.
