We have four different types of surface finishes to the board used in our desking ranges, all of which are applied to a base board ( minimum thickness 25mm) of either 650kg/m2 chipboard or medium density fibreboard (MDF).

MFC (Melamine Faced Chipboard)
A paper wood print (1) and (3) is applied to the chipboard substrate (2 )using a polymerised resin, at high temperature and under pressure. Melamine is resistant to scratching and abrasion |

Laminate
A 1mm thick sheet material(1),(2) and (3), impregnated with melamine and phenolic resin, is heat bonded to the substrate (4). The thickness and strength of the laminate allows it to be wrapped around a curved substrate, to create a post-formed finish. |

HPC (High Protection coating)
This process is similar to MFC except that an additional overlay sheet is used as a final protection coating. This makes the final product up to three times more resistant to scratching than a standard melamine finish. |

Veneer
Thin strips ( .05 to.07mm thick ) of real wood veneer, cut from prepared tree trunks, are chemically bonded to the substrate, which is usually MDF.
After the real wood has been applied the board, it is sanded, stained, and then covered in two coats of protective varnish. |
